Frequently Asked Questions

How To Care for Your New Concrete Curb

Cleaning should be done with a garden hose and broom or brush.

DO NOT pressure wash the curb as the force from the pressure washer will strip the sealer from the curb, which will degrade the colour and leave it more vulnerable to damage from freezing and thawing.

Reseal the curb every 12-18 months with 25% solids acrylic concrete sealer. The sealer can be rolled on, brushed on or sprayed on. The curb surface should be clean and dry and the temperature must be above freezing.

You can know whether the curb is ready for a new coat of sealer when you see the surface looking dull, as compared to the light shine you see on the surface right after installation.

How long does it take to do an average job?
  • Depending on the weather, most jobs take one to one and a half days to do the actual work. Weather is the most important factor contributing to the length of the job. We sometimes may have to come back to finish the job, if we think there is rain coming or the moisture content is too high.

On the other hand, it can sometimes get too hot. This affects the curing of the cement and may extend the job a little bit.

  • We can complete between 150 to 200 feet of decorative curbing per day
Why onsite quotes?
Onsite quotes are the best approach because we can:
  • showcase styles and colours
  • give better recommendations
  • have a better understanding of customer's needs
What is curb made of?
  • the decorative curb is made of a continuous line of concrete. It is NOT individual bricks or pieces of concrete.
Can I buy just the curb and install it myself?
  • No, the curb is created and installed entirely onsite, there is no storefront.
How does the curb compare in cost to Allenblocks?
  • Allen block bought piece by piece may be cheaper per foot. However, the labour and associated materials, including the top cap will add up to a much greater cost per foot.
  • If you install Allen block, there is no labour cost on your part but will probably take five or six times longer
  • Allen blocks advantage is in its height. Our curb is a maximum of 7" high.
What work prep does a customer have to do?
  • In most cases the only prep we ask for is for plants to be trimmed back and for you to have a solid idea of what colour and style you want.
How long for concrete to set up? What colours and styles are available?
  • There are many styles and colours available which you can see on our Photo Gallery and Sample pages. When we do our onsite quote we also have colours and styles we can show you first hand.
